Private Harry Butler

The background of this man is not known at present.

Harry Butler enlisted in the North Irish Horse at Antrim on 8 August 1917 (regimental number between 2652 and 2654 – later Corps of Hussars No.71941). He was described as being 5' 7" tall with a sallow complexion, fair hair and grey eyes. He stated that he was aged 23, was born at Richmond, Surrey, and was employed as a butcher.

Enlisting at the same time was Frederick Butler, probably Harry's younger brother (or perhaps his cousin).

He was reported to have deserted from the regiment's reserve base at Antrim on 3 April 1918. His brother Harry deserted on the same day.

Whether he was subsequently apprehended or returned to duty is not known at present.
